Congratulations to Mitch Bond who competed at the National Track and Field Championships last week in Sydney. This was his first National Championships and has learnt a lot from the experience I am sure. Check out his pictures below.

Sports Awards Day
We are so lucky at Leopold PS to have elite sportsmen and women who are ex-students of the school. We are even luckier that they take the time to revisit the school and interact with our special events. Today at Leopold PS we announced a Sports Award winners for 2015 with AFL, Superbowl and Seasame Street legend, Mr.Ben Graham on hand to present them.

TEAM LEOPOLD it is time to commit and enter RUN GEELONG for 2014. If you do then I want you part of my team..... The more entries that my team has then RUN Geelong reward us by suppling sports equipment for our children.

Your school team is open to your whole school community to join- that means students, staff, parents, grandparents and even friends of the school can join your team and it all contributes to your school earning up to $1,000 worth of Sporting equipment from our good friends at HART Sports.

August is a great time of the year to start getting our bodies ready for the warmer months ahead. With so many opportunities for all of us to enjoy the outdoors and live a healthy lifestyle it is often difficult to decide which one to select. Too many fun things, so many amazing adventures can be had.
In August I am challenging all children PLUS members of their family to take part in AUGUST ATHLETE. Your goal is to be active everyday and track your performance by recording the information on our AUGUST ATHLETE Google Form. In return for your efforts I will be sure to send you a certificate of accomplishments so that you can print and place on the fridge or save as a digital copy and reflect on. There are no conditions to be adhered to except turn off the TV, Laptop or Gaming device and get outside. Tell me, using the form, what you are doing. I will publish all the results right here about how active our community is as we all become AUGUST ATHLETES.

On Thursday 28th May the Star student basketball team will journey to the Basketball Dome to take on the Teacher Team from Leopold PS. In what could be a replay of 'Space Jam' the students will be sure to test the giant mite of the teachers. Who will be the victors....... You will have to come to find out!! 1:30pm.

Olivia hits a winner on her road to successs
Olivia has waited 3 years to leave a footprint in the tennis community. Last week was amazing for our Olivia. Not only did she win a bronze medal at the Western Metro Tennis Championships but she also finished as 1st emergency for the Victorian Tennis Team going to National Championships. Along the way she tested the Victorias No. 1 and Australia's No. 3 ranked player taking her to a tie break.
What a star, What an Athlete and What a wonderful person. She is so humble in her ability but give her a racquet and a tennis ball and she will tell you who owns the court. I found out the hard way early this year!!!

Grade 5/6 Winter Sport Preference Selection
The Senior Team spent time two weeks ago selecting their sport preference for Winter Sport Training and competition. The results didn't surprise me but I thought it was well worth sharing with you. The were allowed to select two sports. As you can see from the Pie Graph, Netball is still the most dominant sport in our area followed by AFL.

Regional BMX Championships
On Wednesday the 28th August 6 Students from Leopold PS competed in the VSCC Regional BMX Championships in Werribee.
It turned out to be a fantastic day and being there chearing everyone on and even being cheared on myself in this great event was awesome. The results were 12-13 Girls Expert, Hannah Moyle 3rd, Becky Moyle 4th, 10-11 Boys Expert,
Luke Moyle 11th, 10-11 Boys Novice Travis Duxson 1st, Will Jenkin 3rd, 6-7 Boys Novice, Edward Jenkin 2nd.
All 6 Students have Qualified for the state finals to be held in October.

Leopold Track & Field Champions for 3rd Straight Year
Leopold PS along with its 84 strong Track and Field Team members secured their third straight District Championships for 2013. After a wash out day the team spent an extra week training which proved to be successful in the end. They out run, out threw and out jumped teams from Bellaire, Torquay and Mandama. Along with the overall victory they won the 9/10 Girls Division and 12 year boys division titles. We have always shown our strength in the Relay section of the day and this year was no different. All 6 of our teams have qualified for the Division Championships. This makes across the past 10 years an amazing 56 from 60 relay teams progressing to the Division Championships.
Congratulations to all team members. We have now have 34 members of our team competing in the Division finals on 16th September.

City to Surf District Athletics Delayed until Monday 2nd September.
Due to terrible weather conditions the City to Surf Athletics Championships has had to be postponed until Monday 2nd September. High Jump run ups were flooded, lane 1 was underwater and ducks were swimming in the jump pits.

Bellarine Hockey proves a hit for our gun Leopold Teams
Under the guidance of Super Coach and star player Gill Pasque from Hockey Geelong our two Leopold Hockey Teams proved that this sport was one which dominance was our middle name. The Boys Team belted and blasted the ball into the net 16 times in 3 games lead by the first time player Jeb Taylor Hewson who put 8 goals away himself. The boys team was too strong for all teams on the day going on to win the championship and qualify for the Regional Finals.
On the other side of the pitch was our girls team. Going into the Tournament ranked 2nd they started well winning their first match. With each game improvement was made and they went into the Grand Final as the underdog favorites. With a 1-0 lead at Half time the girls had to hang on to book themselves a Regional Appearance. Their opposition, the mighty Mandama slotted an equalizer shortly after the break and with 30 seconds left on the clock scored the winning goal to place Leopold 2nd overall on the day by the barest of margins. Well done all involved.

Congratulations to the Girls Senior Netball Team. Once again they have proved they are the best in the Region by capturing the Bellarine Division Championships for 2013. Good luck as you moved forward to the Region Championships

City 2 Surf Tennis Championships
Leopold Primary School Tennis team for 2013. Congratulations to Olivia and Jeb for winning their compeitions.
Maity and Marcus finished runners up in their doubles competition and Lily and Maha finsihed 4th in their competition.

Bellarine Division Swimming Championships
At our recent Bellarine Division Swimming Championships Sophie swam her way to two qualifiers for the Regional Championships.
She finished 1st in the Breaststroke and 2nd in the Butterfly both 50m events.

Twitter Chat with Avery Coonley School Illinois Year 7 Class
Mr Adam Metcalf and I met on twitter and set up a skype chat between our two classes. We had an eager group of 4 grade 6 students arrive at school at 8am to match the 3pm time of the Avery Coonley School. We spoke about sport, cricket, accents, Justin Bieber and food. Tandem Bike at Leopold PS
After years of borrowing another schools tandem bike Leopold PS has now secured their own. The bike has been specifically purchased for the use by several of our students who have physical disabilities to prevent them from riding a normal bike successfully for long periods of time. This bike will be use in conjunction with our bike ed program and most likely a few staff rides at lunch time.

Congratulations to all our students in Grades Prep-6 who competed in the House Cross Country Championships. A glorious day welcomed us and a 400
person strong community group showed their support by cheering all runners on as they tackled their individual courses. My feeling is that this
years crowd was even larger than last years crowd. A huge thank you to Stinger for lending us his generator to keep our finish arch upright throughout the
event.
